Report a problem

Report it where it happens: four entries at the bay instead of a memory back at the depot. The type decides whether the office rings straight away or checks in the evening.

Redgrave Tour is a sample app by Awelior. Invented business, invented data, nothing is stored.

Round 0834

Sample data

Delivery window at stop 9 closes at 12:00 PM

It is 11:40 AM and the van is at the bay. One consignment is still unscanned — the signature will not open without it.

About this app

Redgrave Haulage does not exist. The rounds, stops, consignees, consignment numbers, plates and weights on these screens are invented and describe no real journey.

The demo scans nothing, sends nothing and signs for nothing. Buttons, input fields and signature areas are fully labeled but have no effect.

Scan

Sample data

The camera reads the barcode

Hold the device like a torch. If the label is scratched or wet, the manual entry below does the job — and the reason goes to the office with it.

Scanned today

In the order read. The double scan was rejected; SDG-118451 is still missing and is blocking the signature.

Key the number in by hand

For labels that have been through the rain — and for the carton right at the bottom. Without a reason the device will not accept a manual entry.

Ten characters. The handset checks the last digit before accepting it.

Two according to the consignment note.

Reason for manual entry

Raised on this round

Three reports in one morning is not a bad day, it is a normal one. “Open” means the office has yet to decide.

No signal since 11:39 AM

There is a dead spot between Commerce City and Fort Lupton. Anything written stays on the handset and goes out once there is signal again.

Dispatch desk, Denver

In writing, because nobody phones at the wheel — and because the late shift has to be able to read what was decided at 11:26 AM.

The four states

In a cab this is no fine point: between two villages the signal is gone, and the round carries on regardless.

  • Loading

    Loading the round

At the depot in the morning the list of stops is there as a frame before consignees and consignments arrive. A blank screen with a spinner looks as if the round had never been planned.

  • Nothing there

    No exceptions on this round

A day without one is an answer, not an empty screen. The app says so and offers the next step.

  • Failed

    Signature rejected

Head office would not take the signature for stop 6 because the consignment has since been canceled. The entry stays put until somebody decides — it is not quietly dropped.

  • No connection

Dead spot between Commerce City and Fort Lupton

Scans, photos and signatures keep being captured on the handset. They go out by themselves once there is signal again.

The project frame

How Awelior would approach this project

Redgrave Haulage, Denver is invented — the way it is built is not. None of this is work delivered for a client. It is the shape we would give such a project — with the same depth, but without a client who would have to answer for it.

Where it starts

Redgrave Haulage runs local groupage deliveries. The driver gets a printed stop list on the passenger seat each morning, signs off on a paper delivery note, and anything off-plan gets phoned through from the bay. The work happens standing up, one-handed, in work gloves — and between two villages the signal is gone. That is the requirement everything else hangs on.

Decisions

  • The signature only opens after the last scan

The checklist at the stop is not decoration: while a consignment is unscanned, the receipt cannot be opened at all. A signature covering a quantity nobody counted is no signature when it is disputed — the block is inconvenient and that is precisely why it is there.

  • The duplicate scan shows up on the device, not in the depot

The scan list stays in the order things were read and marks the second scan of the same number as a duplicate. A device that silently de-bounces loses the difference between “scanned twice” and “two packages” — and that difference is what the depot needs in the evening.

  • Manual entry asks why

Labels ruined by rain need a keypad, or the driver is stuck at the bay. The reason travels to dispatch with the number, because otherwise manual entries pile up unnoticed — and eventually nobody scans anything.

Deliberately left outNo vehicle tracking and no time capture by position. On a delivery round both would be technically trivial, and both are the kind of monitoring a union contract usually has something to say about. What gets recorded is what happens at a stop, not where the vehicle sits between two of them.

Navigation responds, including the route from the round into a single stop and back. Scanner, signature pad, exception report and checklist are fully rendered and inert; the four states have a view of their own.

How it would go on

  • Connection to dispatch

Rounds, stops and consignments come out of the freight system; receipts, exceptions and returned pallets have to travel the same way back. A second status kept by hand is worse than none.

  • Signatures and evidential value

How long a proof of delivery is kept, who may see it and what it is worth in a dispute is settled by the business before the first paper note disappears.

  • Devices in the cab

Mount, power, mobile contract, a spare unit when one dies — and the question of who has the device at the weekend and who disables it when it goes missing.
