Delivery and returns

Two dispatch days, one delivery window.

Chilled goods leave on Tuesdays and Thursdays and arrive Wednesday or Friday. Nothing cold from us spends a weekend in transit, and no surcharge changes that.

Public holidays move the cut-off. The basket then names the next possible dispatch day before you order. Chilled shipping rests entirely in the week before Easter and between Christmas and New Year; ambient goods keep going.

Sample hours

Whether the doors are open right now is something this demo deliberately does not claim — only the finished website can, with the real hours of Rookhurst Fine Foods.

Four routes, four prices

Chilled shipping

Insulated box with ice packs and wool fleece, delivered one to two working days after dispatch. $35 minimum order, because a half-empty box will not hold temperature. No delivery to neighbors and no safe place without a handover.

$9.90, free above $80

Parcel shipping for ambient goods

Chutney, plum butter and preserves without cooling. Goes out all week, no minimum order, delivered in one to three working days.

$4.90, free above $60

Collection at the kitchen

Thursdays 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the yard gate. Pay in the shop beforehand or on collection. No minimum, no shipping cost, but one fixed day.

no charge

Delivery inside Brattleboro

Wednesdays in our own van within the town, ordered by Tuesday 6:00 PM. We call ahead so that somebody is in.

$5.00

Returns — and where they end

Our return policy: unopened ambient goods come back within 30 days, no reason needed. The window starts on the day you receive them. An email or a letter is enough; the return form comes with every confirmation, and you are not obliged to use it.

For a large part of our range returns are expressly excluded: goods liable to deteriorate rapidly or to exceed their date quickly. That covers everything marked as chilled — pâtés, terrines, rillettes, liver sausage, stocks. The note sits on the product, in the cart and in the order summary, each time next to the line itself.

For sealed jars, the return ends once the seal has been removed — food that has been open cannot go back on a shelf. Unopened, we take ambient goods back within the 30 days without asking why.

None of that touches the cases where something has gone wrong: goods arriving warm, a broken jar, a mispacked parcel. A photo is enough and we replace or refund. We do not ask for food to be posted back — it costs postage and helps nobody.

This page describes how we work and is not legal advice. The policy wording belongs in front of an attorney once; the website provides the places where it appears.

Questions about delivery and returns

How does the box survive summer?

Through the number of ice packs and through a short journey. Above 27 °C outside we add a pack and, if need be, move dispatch to early Thursday. Above 32 °C we suspend chilled shipping for the week and write to everyone who has ordered — better one letter too many than one warm pâté.

Can the box be left with a neighbor?

No. Chilled goods are handed to a person at the delivery address. A safe place in the yard or behind the bins is not a delivery at 25 °C, it is damage with a delay built in.

Do you ship abroad?

Ambient goods to neighboring countries, $14.90 a parcel. Chilled goods, no — the two extra days a cross-border parcel takes are two days no insulated box will hold. If you live near the border, Thursday collection is often closer than it looks.

What does a return cost?

On a return you bear the direct cost of sending the goods back; that is what the policy says. Where the fault is ours — wrong jar, breakage, warm goods — we pay, and mostly we do not ask for a return at all.

Is there a deposit on the jars?

No. If you want to give them back, bring them along when collecting; we wash and reuse them. There is no refund for it, because posting a jar back costs more than the jar.

Collection on Thursdays from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the yard gate, not through the kitchen. Parking in the yard. The kitchen is not a shop — outside collection hours nobody is at a counter, and we do not open up briefly either.

On the finished website, tapping the map opens the visitor's own maps app. This demo deliberately loads nothing from third parties.
